Aspiring Financial Advisor Wins $2000 SpendOnLife.com Scholarship

The scholarship entry guidelines were simple: you must be a college student, you must have a blog, and you must write about credit or identity theft on that blog. By researching these topics and writing about them online, students helped their peers learn how credit can significantly affect their lives. We had to choose one winner from over 200 creative and informative posts. Special thanks go out to all who participated in this contest.

Our winner, Joseph McClellan, is an Arizona State University student and personal finance blogger. He is majoring in Global Business and wants to pursue a career in financial advising when he graduates. Joseph has worked in the banking industry since 2005. He decided to start his blog—debitversuscredit.com—after a friend came to him with some questions about credit. The blog post that won him the SpendOnLife.com scholarship--Identity Theft is No Laughing Matter—discusses the dangers of identity theft by using an example from the popular TV show The Office.
