SPENDonLIFE Scholarship Winners!

SPENDonLIFE.com is proud to announce the five winners of its 2009 scholarship competition. We at SPENDonLIFE firmly believe that poor credit history shouldn't stand in the way of higher education, and are happy to help ease the financial burden for these five bright, committed students.

Our scholarship was open to students who ran into difficulties obtaining college loans due to poor credit history. We asked applicants to submit an essay explaining how the credit crunch is affecting them in their pursuit of higher education. We received an overwhelming response from over 3,000 applicants. We're now able to announce our five winners from this incredibly large pool.

They are (drum roll, please....):

  • Amanda Tolson at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • Susan Ware at Auburn University
  • Danielle Joiner at the University of North Florida
  • Kristin Keraga at Duquesne University
  • Jhaurel Johnson at Texas A&M, Prairie View

We were incredibly impressed by these students' commitment to succeed, and would like to be the first to congratulate them on their dedication and tenacity. The current economy has been especially hard on those college students who rely on loans from banks, private institutions, and the government. Higher-than-ever credit scores from students and their parents are needed to qualify for loans with fair interest rates attached to them.

While our scholarship program can't help combat the credit crunch for the more than 17 million students currently enrolled at the college and university level throughout the U.S., we do encourage all students to be proactive in learning about how credit affects them. We are dedicated to educating students and others on the importance of maintaining healthy credit, and the dangers of falling into too much debt.

A big thanks to all of those who participated in this year's SPENDonLIFE.com scholarship. Please bookmark and visit often students.spendonlife.com to keep an eye out for our next scholarship offering.
